Today is the 78th anniversary (October 10) of the founding of the North Korean Workers’ Party. It is reported that various types of celebratory gatherings and lectures were held in North Korea to mark this day.
Previously, on the 7th, the Korean Central News Agency reported, “A celebratory gathering of young people and students was held at the Youth Central Center on the 6th to mark the 78th anniversary of the founding of the Workers’ Party.”
According to a source from North Hamgyong Province in the NK Times on the 10th, North Korea issued instructions to factories, enterprises and farms across the country to hold meetings, commemorative lectures and study sessions to celebrate the 78th anniversary of the founding of the party early this month.
Accordingly, it is known that factories, enterprises, and farms in North Hamgyong Province, including Chongjin City and Hoeryeong City, held gatherings, lectures, and study sessions to celebrate the 78th anniversary of the founding of the Workers’ Party from the 5th to the 8th.
The source reported that at the lecture and study session, the history of the founding and development of the Workers’ Party was mentioned, and it was also emphasized that all workers and young people would repay the love and consideration of the leader (Kim Jong-un) with greater achievements in carrying out their revolutionary tasks.
In this way, North Korea attempted to rally party members and workers through various types of meetings, but the local response was reportedly cold.
The source said, “Early October is a very busy month, so much so that we have to lend a hand to cats, such as securing cabbage or radish for kimchi,” and pointed out, “Does it make sense to take up people’s time by saying trivial things at a time like this?”
At the same time, he said, “There are not many people who think that they are benefiting from the Labor Party these days,” and “Even though they are aware of these residents’ trends from above, the Japanese residents who praise the greatness of the party and the greatness of the leader cannot help but feel absurd.” reported.
It is known that this reaction was the same in Yanggang Province.
In fact, a Ryanggang Province source told NK Times on the 10th, “From the 5th to the 8th, various learning sessions were held at factories, enterprises and farms in Hyesan City to celebrate the 78th anniversary of the party’s founding.” He added, “It is also true that rice is produced to commemorate the party’s founding date. “Residents are furrowing their brows at the actions of the authorities, who are telling people to ‘gather together and disperse’ when this is not the case,” he said.
He continued, “During the fall season, it is not easy to get through the winter without bringing in at least one more ear of corn or one more potato. Moreover, food or holiday materials are not provided just because it is a holiday, and I don’t understand why we hold lectures or study sessions that are not helpful to the residents. “They are responding,” he said, conveying the local atmosphere.
Meanwhile, in North Korea, commemorative anniversaries (five-year cycles) are considered important and are celebrated grandly in years that fall in multiples of 5, such as 5, 10, 15, and 20 years from the year in which an event occurred.
Therefore, since this year’s 78th anniversary of the party’s founding was not the anniversary of the party’s founding, it was replaced with a lecture or study session, the source added.
