As of October 11, it was confirmed that North Korean grain prices had fallen significantly.

The prices of North Korean grains obtained by this paper on the 13th were confirmed to be 5,200 won per kg for glutinous rice, 6,100 won for glutinous rice, 2,100 won for corn (corn), 2,700 won for corn rice, and 4,300 won for beans.

In addition, potatoes and sweet potatoes were found to be priced at 1,000 to 1,300 won and 1,600 won per 1 kg, respectively, while other barley and denatured corn powder were found to be priced at 2,100 won and 2,900 won per 1 kg, respectively.

In relation to this, a source from North Hamgyong Province said on the 11th, “Recently, the price of rice at food stores and markets has remained the same as before (5,200 won), while the prices of corn and barley have dropped significantly by 500 won and 300 won, respectively.” He added, “This year’s farming is poor. “The situation is relatively good, and with new rice, corn, and potatoes released into the market, food prices have entered an overall downward trend,” he told NK Times.

He went on to say, “Residents are welcoming the overall decline in grain prices, including rice and corn,” and added, “The downward trend in grain prices is expected to continue for the time being.”
